2 film reviewers you should follow

Who doesn't like a good movie? Of course, books are preferred (it's mandatory for me to say it, because I write them...), but an entertaining film can, from time to time, substitute a quality entertainment. But which ones are good? How not to waste time? "Horrible Bosses" may have been funny, whilst the second part made me want to walk straight into the kitchen and commit seppuku using a bread knife. Fear not, however, as I have found two sources of knowledge and advice when it comes to cinema - they have repeatedly proven to be consistent with my own opinion. Hence I feel I should recommend blogging boy and girl who can set you on the right cinematic track.

1. Ruthless on Film (CLICK)

Girls first, so I will start with Ruth. The reviews she posts on her blog are not only accurate, but also written with true sense of humour. One still fresh in my memory is the article on "Fifty Shades of Grey", entitled "50 Things I’d Rather Do Than See 50 Shades of Grey" or - as I like to call it, copying the author's sign - "Fifty Shades of Nope". As you may guess, it lists 50 things Ruth would rather do than watch "the poorly written porno", like "ripping off her toenails with rusty pliers" or "giving up carbs". It was actually one of the factors that prevented me from seeing the picture - I believe Ruth when she talks about her feet THAT way.

"Ruthless on Film" also offers guest posts. The latest review of new Star Wars movie is written by Mark Jankowski.
On the other hand, her review of "Life of Pi" is a sophisticated one that makes me want to pick Ruth's brain, dig up all the parts responsible for creating it with a spoon, and force it through the ear into my own head, so I could one day write such fantastic piece of journalism. Since that wouldn't work anyway, I shall just praise the article in this post. Just go and read it by yourself. Go, go. Seriously, go. It's HERE. (Click on it, now!)

Ruth introduces herself shortly: "I am a twenty something girl still on my journey to figure life out.
One thing I am certain of though is what makes a good movie. So sit back, relax and enjoy my reviews."

2. No Blogging for Old Men (CLICK)

As you may be aware, del Toro's "Crimson Peak" came out in 2015. It was a much-anticipated movie for me and I ran to the cinema right after its release. I loved the visuals, but the story was lacking something. With that thought, I read the review of the film by Scott Anderson (HERE), the author of the above blog. It was not only spot on, but also well-constructed and engaging. Even though I had seen the movie by that point, I still felt it would have given me a good idea about it without knowing anything on the subject.

So I sank into the world of movies on Scott's site, with every possible genre you can think of, including "Nymphomaniac: Volume 1" of which I heard, but wasn't certain if I wanted to watch it (after seeing the trailer and, more importantly, reading the review, I decided against it). And talking about the "naughty" - Scott too reviewed "Fifty Shades of Bad Dialogue" - I haven't laughed so hard since Ruth's toenails came into light. He does have a little different take on the topic, though, and you ought to read it for yourself HERE. Go on. To laugh is healthy.

Scott introduces himself as follows:  "I am 30 years old and I live in the suburbs of Chicago with my amazing wife and daughter. I work a regular desk job during the day, at which I daydream about going home and being able to spend time with my family, and then I cherish the opportunity to turn the lights out late at night and watch a movie. Watching as well as writing about film is what I love to do, and I hope you enjoy reading some of my thoughts even half as much as I enjoy writing them."

So, if you need a fresh, sensible take on any of the movies that cost you both ticket/DVD money and your precious time, take a minute or two to check out these two blogs. It should help you make the right choice - or simply give an opportunity to exchange opinions.
